Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has declared himself fully fit and ready to lead his side into tomorrow’s Europa League final against Manchester United, as the North London club aims to end its long wait for silverware.
Speaking to the media ahead of the eagerly anticipated clash, Son reflected on his recent return from injury and his current fitness.
“I am ready and obviously back from injury,” he confirmed. “It was my first game against Crystal Palace and afterwards I played against Villa. I didn't expect to play that long but I managed to play. Physically, I am ready to go and also the boys are ready to go for the biggest game of the season.”
The South Korean star also touched on the significance of the moment, harking back to Tottenham’s painful defeat in the 2019 Champions League final a memory he shares with fellow Spurs veteran Ben Davies.
“Ben Davies is here. Let's not forget about his commitment and work rate,” Son said. “It's going to be a huge moment for both of us and also for the boys if we win. As we always say, the first step is going to be really the hardest. If we win that trophy, we can change the mentality and we can change the history and hopefully we can continue to compete for other trophies.”
Son was asked whether former Spurs striker Harry Kane, now at Bayern Munich, had reached out ahead of the final. Their bond remains strong, and Son was full of admiration for his old teammate.
“Everyone knows Harry is my best mate and it was a huge honour playing alongside him,” he said. “After he won his first title, we had a chat about his trophy. He is already on holiday so he doesn't have to text me. I am just concentrating myself with the boys and I'm sure Harry will be the biggest Spurs fan tomorrow and supporting us from his holidays.”
While questions around his future continue to swirl, Son made it clear that his sole focus is on the opportunity in front of him lifting a European trophy with Tottenham.
“We never know about the future, we might play in the Champions League next year, we might play in the final,” he reflected. “The chance that I have now is real, tomorrow is the final. I am just not thinking about anything else. This could be my last chance or another chance. I just want to concentrate on tomorrow, winning and lifting the trophy with the boys and celebrating together.”
As Tottenham fans dream of a historic night, their captain’s words offer a reminder of just how much is on the line — not only a trophy, but the potential to usher in a new era for the club.
