Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a potential transfer boost as Angel Gomes prepares to leave Lille at the end of his contract, sparking interest from a number of clubs across Europe.
The 24-year-old midfielder confirmed his departure via Instagram, expressing deep gratitude to Lille after spending four years with the French club.
In his farewell post, Gomes described the experience as “unforgettable,” thanking teammates and fans for their support throughout his time in Ligue 1.
“Lille has been more than a football club for me,” Gomes wrote. “It’s been a second home where I’ve grown on and off the pitch. I gave everything for the badge and will always carry this club in my heart.”
Gomes initially joined Lille from Manchester United in 2020, shortly after spending a loan spell in Portugal with Boavista. Since then, he’s developed into a reliable figure in midfield, making 20 appearances across all competitions this past season. His recent involvement with the England Under-21s under Lee Carsley, including an appearance against Ireland, has only strengthened his profile.
Now available as a free agent, Gomes is being monitored closely by both Tottenham and West Ham, with reports suggesting the two Premier League clubs are at the front of the queue. Marseille are also said to be keeping tabs on the situation.
Able to play in both advanced and deeper midfield roles, Gomes could be a smart addition for Spurs, especially with no transfer fee involved. Tottenham’s midfield currently includes the likes of James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall, and Archie Gray. Even so, the club could look to add further depth ahead of a busy campaign next season.
With Spurs securing Champions League football following their Europa League final victory over Manchester United, any pursuit of Gomes may now move forward quickly, as the club seeks to strengthen its squad for the European stage.
