Gareth Bale has urged Tottenham Hotspur’s board to make a quick and clear decision on Ange Postecoglou’s future following the club’s long-awaited Europa League victory over Manchester United.

Despite guiding Spurs to their first major trophy in 17 years and securing a spot in next season’s Champions League, Postecoglou's position remains uncertain. Tottenham’s poor Premier League form has left question marks hanging over the Australian’s future, with rumours of a potential summer exit still circulating.

Spurs showed steel and discipline in their 1-0 win over United in Bilbao. Brennan Johnson scored the decisive goal just before the break, and Tottenham delivered a solid defensive performance to hold on, sparking wild celebrations from fans and players alike.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the final whistle, Bale, who enjoyed a legendary stint with the club, was full of praise for the achievement but made it clear that the club now needs to act swiftly.

“It’s been a long time coming and I’m absolutely buzzing for the club,” Bale said. “The fans have waited so long, and I’m sure they’ll be partying hard after this.”

Turning to Postecoglou’s uncertain future, Bale didn’t hold back. “Only the chairman, Daniel Levy, can decide that,” he said. “There’s been so much speculation about whether he stays or goes. Now that he’s delivered a trophy, it’s time for the board to make a call. Either they back him, or they don’t, but they need to make that decision quickly.”

Bale also shared his thoughts on the manager’s style of play. “I like the football he plays. Sure, he’s been criticised for not having a plan B, but tonight proved he can adapt. We saw a different side of his game, a more defensive approach. If he keeps developing like that, then yes, I believe he can bring more success to the club.”

Postecoglou himself addressed the speculation after the match. The former Celtic boss made it clear that the decision about his future isn’t up to him, but that it hasn’t distracted him from his goals.

“That’s not in my hands,” he said. “If it was going to affect me, you’d have seen it in the buildup. All I’ve cared about is this,” he added, pointing to his winner’s medal. “This means the club has won something. That’s what I came here to do.”

He continued, “I don’t feel like the job is done yet. We’re still building. From the moment I took the role, my goal was to win a trophy. We’ve done that now, and I want to keep going.”

Daniel Levy, the club’s chairman and a regular target for fan frustration over the team’s lack of silverware in recent years, was in attendance at the final. He was seen just two seats away from Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

As Spurs fans bask in the glory of a long-overdue European title, the club’s leadership now faces a crucial decision. Whether Postecoglou stays or goes, the next move could shape the direction of Tottenham for years to come.
