Tottenham captain Heung-Min Son was full of emotion after leading his side to Europa League glory, describing the win as the realisation of a lifelong dream.
Speaking to TNT Sports following the 1-0 victory over Manchester United in Bilbao, Son didn't shy away from celebrating the historic moment.
“Why not call myself a legend, at least for today?” he joked. “It’s been 17 years since anyone brought a trophy home for this club, and now we’ve done it. So yes, today I’ll take that title. It’s time to celebrate.”
Son, who has spent years as a fan favourite at Spurs, admitted that lifting silverware with the club was something he had visualised for a long time.
“It’s an incredible feeling,” he said. “I’ve dreamt of this moment for years, and today it finally came true. I honestly couldn’t be happier.”
Reflecting on the season, Son acknowledged it hasn’t been easy. From injuries to inconsistent form in the league, the team has faced its fair share of challenges. But he praised the unity and resilience within the squad.
“There were tough moments throughout the year, no doubt about it. But we stuck together,” he said. “Some of the younger guys really stepped up, and I always tried to guide them the best I could. I’m just lucky to share the pitch with such an incredible group.”
The pressure of delivering a long-awaited trophy weighed heavily on Son, especially in the build-up to the final.
“I won’t lie, I felt the pressure,” he admitted. “I wanted this so badly. For the past week, I’ve been dreaming about this every single night. And now that it’s real, I can finally relax and sleep well tonight.”
